The American Express Green Card is one of my favorite cards, but I might have to say good-bye

The American Express Green Card - my old friend. I have to say, I have a bit of a soft spot for this card. It was one of my first "real" credit cards, and it's been a faithful companion on many amazing adventures. But, as much as it pains me to say it, I've kind of outgrown it. With other cards like the Hilton Aspire Card and the American Express Platinum card in my wallet, the Green Card has taken a bit of a backseat.

But, let me tell you, this card has given me some incredible memories. I remember using it to book a family trip to The Grove in Orlando, Florida. We stayed in a beautiful condo resort, and it was the perfect spot for a family vacation. The wife and I were able to relax along with some family and enjoy some much-needed quality time together. The Green Card's rewards program and travel benefits made it easy to book the trip and earn points towards future adventures.

Another standout trip that comes to mind is my wife's birthday celebration at the Waldorf Astoria. I used the Green Card to book a luxurious room, and we spent the weekend indulging in fine dining and spa treatments. It was the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion, and the Green Card's rewards and benefits made it all the more affordable.

And, let's not forget about the Amex offers. Oh, the Amex offers! I've saved hundreds of dollars over the past year with these targeted promotions. From discounts on everyday purchases to exclusive deals on travel and experiences, the Amex offers have been a game-changer. I've used them to save money on everything from groceries to gas, and it's amazing how quickly the savings can add up.

So, while I may have moved on to more premium cards, I'll always be grateful to the American Express Green Card for the amazing vacations and memories it's helped me create. It's a great card for anyone just starting out with travel rewards, and it's definitely worth considering if you're looking for a solid, no-frills rewards program.

For the $150 annual fee, it’s a difficult value proposition if you aren’t planning on doing a lot of spending on the spending multipliers, but it can be rewarding nonetheless.

The card gets 3X points on worldwide dining, as well as transit. This transit category is huge, and includes parking, commuting expenses, and tolls. Also, the travel category gets 3 points per dollar as well. This can be either direct with the hotel or airline, but also works with online travel agencies like Kayak, Hotels.com, or Expedia. So quite literally, whatever you travel or do, you can benefit from having this card.

Currently, there’s only one main benefit of the card, and that’s a single $199 credit towards Clear. This is something that my wife and I have used quite a bit, and it’s been a real timesaver. I don’t know if I would value it at $200 though.

The spending multipliers are great, but for me, it's time to move on to bigger and better things. The Hilton Aspire Card and the American Express Platinum card offer more premium benefits and rewards that align with my current travel style. Still, I'll always look back on my time with the Green Card fondly, and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to experience all that it has to offer.

If you're in the market for a new credit card, I'd definitely recommend giving the American Express Green Card a look. It may not be the flashiest card out there, but it's a reliable workhorse that can help you earn rewards and save money on your everyday purchases. And, who knows, it may just help you create some amazing memories of your own.
